Stranded Hikers / Chicken Shoot Gully / Spruce Peak-Notch Area

Two college kids called for help when one fell through ice at the Sterling Pond and trying to self-extricate they lost the Long Trail and found themselves cliffed out and hypothermic in the Chicken Shoot Gulley.  When our team arrived the decision was made to try to warm the subjects while waiting for additional manpower to arrive.  A fire was lit and the hypothermic subject was changed into dry clothes and boots.  After a few hours of warming, both subjects were able to walk out with support.

Stranded Hikers / Mansfield Ridge

Two young hikers called for help when they found themselves stranded on the ridge of Mt Mansfield in full winter conditions.  They were well equipped but unfamiliar with the terrain and aware of the risks of continuing along the ridge with limited visibility in winter weather.  We drove up the mountain on ATVs and hiked along the Long Trail from the top of the Toll Road, walked our subjects out and drove them down the mountain by ATV.

Injured hikers / Sunset Ridge

We responded to a mutual aid call to carry a subject with an injured knee down the Sunset Ridge call.  During the litter evacuation, we became aware of a second subject higher on the trail with an injured ankle.  A small party broke off to attend to this subject, splinting the ankle and helping her to walk down to below the tree line.  Then a third subject with a mildly injured knee made himself known.  We wrapped his knee and he was able to self extricate.  The first subject was successfully delivered to the trailhead in Underhill and the litter brought back up to the ankle injury who was being kept warm with a small fire.  She was then carried down the trail into Underhill.
